Replacements China
A modern take on an old-school tradition
“Honey,” says your mom in that know-it-all voice. “Everyone registers for china.”

The Wall of China has the 500 most popular patterns
Um, sorry, Mom, that isn’t the case anymore. If all you brides-to-be are anything like us, you’re hesitant to register for china. For one thing, you probably can’t even imagine a time that you’ll actually use 12 settings of dishes that are fancier (and more expensive) than your dining room table and chairs combined. And second, why waste valuable registry space on china when you could request that amazing Dyson?
Here’s an idea: Ask your mom or grandmother for their china. Don’t worry if some of the pieces have been lost or broken over the years. That’s where Replacements.com comes in. The North Carolina-based company has more than 13 million pieces of china, crystal, silver and collectibles in its collection and some of the best customer service in the industry.
Don’t know the name of the pattern? No problem. Replacement’s pattern identification feature lets you submit a photo of any of your dishes and their on-site experts will determine the name and date of your pattern. Need to finish out your set? There are literally millions of pieces of china floating around on their site. Want a whole new set that has gone out of production? Replacements buys old sets and sells them for a great price.
History meets thrifty. Can’t beat that.

What a great idea, Kate. I have used this personally myself and recommended it to others. Another tip, if registering for china, think about a simple pattern i.e. white with platinum band or plain white. Then purchase salad plates, cup and saucer in pattern. When you tire of them, you may move onto another pattern or mix them with a new pattern that you purchase or receive. You may also use the plain plate as a background for holiday patterned china too. Lots of fun and mixing!
