We’re definitely not sugarcoating anything when we say that we’ve gone sweet for New York City-based event planner Amy Atlas. Her forté? Uniquely beautiful and truly one-of-a-kind dessert tables that are tailor-made for your perfect day. We’re not talking cupcake towers here — this is some seriously beautiful design for arguably the best part of your big day.
When it comes to the dessert table, where do you even start?
Make it personal by infusing your favorite desserts. While it is nice to have a variety of desserts at a wedding to appease your guests, it makes it more personal if you also include desserts that you love. It’s nice to label the desserts as the bride & groom’s favorite confections so guests know the significance.
Dish it! Do you have a sweet tooth?
Yes, and it’s insatiable! As a child, my family would catch me in the middle of the night with fork in hand attacking a cake in the fridge. Things haven’t really changed since then! The only difference is that it isn’t an Entenmann’s cake but amazing desserts from all of my vendors.
What is the one sweet treat you cannot pass up?
Well, it isn’t the most sophisticated dessert, but I would have to go with a Reese’s peanut butter cup. Chocolate and peanut butter is my favorite combination. I even had a chocolate peanut butter wedding cake at my own wedding!
If you’re going rogue and doing the design all by yourself, what should you focus on?
Keep the color palette simple so that the display won’t look too busy, and make sure your serving pieces work well with the mood of the overall table.
What is the secret of a perfectly balanced dessert table?
Don’t stress about filling up your table with many different elements. You can provide five or six different desserts on beautiful serving pieces with a simple floral arrangement and it can make a lovely display.
What color combinations are you currently obsessed with?
I love unexpected color palettes — like lavender and raspberry, bubblegum pink and grey, or mustard and grey. And I never tire of turquoise and magenta.
Favorite color as a child?
Pink.
A teenager?
Pink.
Currently?
Still pink! It is a color that just makes me happy!
