Looking for the perfect beauty look for your special day? Leave it to celebrity makeup artist Sue Devitt, whose namesake line of beauty products not only combines some of the most technical formulas in the industry, but also boosts a rich color palette from which she pulls directly from her exotic travels (think purples and grays from nighttime on Kilimanjaro or deep greens and aquamarines from a dive in the Great Barrier Reef). From building the perfect beach wedding look to the hottest bridal trends, Devitt dishes her best beauty advice — and we’re all ears.

What bridal beauty trends do you see emerging now?

Using sophisticated sheen is a subtle and soft way to maintain a glowing look. E-Z Eye Roller Ball Eye Shadow in Hydra adds just a subtle hint of shimmer that is not overpowering. Apply it just to the brow bone as a highlight and to the inner corners of the eye to brighten. Another trend is highlighting the décolleté. Sweep a hint of warm bronze powder along the neck and chest for a hint of sexy shimmer and color that looks great in photos.

What should every bride carry day of for her wedding after her makeup artist leaves her?

Essentials include a pressed powder to keep maximum control over shine and a lipstick or gloss for reapplication after greeting guests and enjoying a champagne toast.

If you’re going rogue and doing your own makeup, what are some quick tips to make sure it’s flawless?

For the eyes, I would steer clear of trendy colors. You want to look back on the best day of your life and see a timeless look. Opt for classic colors that accentuate your natural eye color. Shades of antique lilac, soft pink and cream look amazing on the eyes and they add a romantic touch. For cheeks, try a pretty wash of a pink-plum color such as Silky Blush in Belize, perfect for a rosy glow. A secret beauty tip I use on all of my celebrity clients: Apply blush high on the apples of your cheeks for an instant face-lift. For lips, apply a neutral or rose-tinted color such as Balanced Matte Lipstick in Cape Colony, a great balance between nude and pink. Add some depth to lips by blending in color with an everyday pink liner like Long Lasting Lipliner in Safi. For the finishing touch, add some texture with a neutral or pink gloss that complements the rose tone.

Build the perfect beauty look for us for a beach wedding.

I recommend using an oil-free foundation for warm weather. But no matter what month is it, always use a foundation or tinted moisturizer with SPF. SpaComplexion Hydrating Marine Minerals Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 is the perfect base. Achieve a healthy, radiant spa-treated complexion with this lightweight, natural finish tinted moisturizer. To perfect a warm, natural glow, dust a bronzing powder over the T-zone and where the sun naturally hits for a sun-kissed look. Triple Touch Light Reflecting Bronzer in Beausoleil is ideal as the formulation locks in moisture and adds a hint of color to cheeks, chin and forehead with all the depth of a true tan. To achieve further radiance, use the three burnished shades on your eyes to accentuate the lid, lash line and brow bone.

When it comes to the wedding day beauty look, what is the most important thing to remember? The least?

Tears are inevitable on your wedding day so it’s important to remember a good water-resistant mascara. I recommend Luxury Lash Intensifier infused with Signature Microquatic Complex — the texture is flexible and layerable, allowing for clump-free touch-ups throughout the day.

What did your mother’s wedding gown look like?

It was silk, sleek, romantic and beautiful.

Were you ever a bridesmaid trapped in a really awful bridesmaid’s dress? If so, what did it look like?

It’s bad enough being a bridesmaid — I draw the line at a bad dress and definitely no hair ornaments!!
