To hear celeb-favorite Minoo Hersini talk about floral design is like watching an architect embark on her next big project. She means business. With an emphasis on organic design, Minoo’s creations are simple and beautiful, taking their cues from fashion, architecture and interiors. We try to get the New York-based Minoo (whose client list includes Bill and Hillary Clinton, Vanessa Williams, David Letterman and Meredith Vieira) to spill her secrets for the perfect bouquet.

What floral trends do you see emerging now?

Whites are always the top choice. Today’s bride is very green and looking to incorporate organically grown elements to decorate her wedding.

How did you get your start in floral design?

It was almost mandatory! Let’s say you only design corporate events and then the CEO of a company wants you to do his daughter’s wedding. You’ll do it. Besides, you are always designing to celebrate a new beginning.

Favorite flowers?

For the most part, with the exception of a few, most flowers are available all year round. It’s more exciting working with flowers that are imported from countries running opposite seasons. I like working with peonies in the winter, knowing that peonies are usually only available at the end of spring through the summer here.

What is the one flower that you rarely see but would love to see more of?

I love using pansies and lotus flowers, especially for bridal bouquets.

Favorite floral color palette?

Whites accented with cream, green and very soft blue.

Any wedding nightmare stories you can share?

A mother telling her bride-to-be daughter, “Shut up, you are my guest and I decide what you should be choosing for your flowers and décor!’

Yikes. Let’s end this on a positive note! What is the best thing about working in the bridal industry?

The bride’s smile.
